CHVRCHES – Empty threat

This track has an electric pop feel to it, with an 80's synth pop sound. Everything compliments each other, spacey vocals, boomy drums, layers of synths and a catchy bass line, to give this track it's happy poppy presence. The track is off their fairly recent album Every Open Eye, that was released in September 2015. But the thing thats got everyone talking at the minute, is the music video they just released for this track, last month.

The video features as it's main character Riley Buttery, or how some have named her, the Lauren Mayberry look a like. We find Riley Buttery at the start of the video getting her self prepared for the day, dark lip stick and dark eye make up, with shots of views of the scenery later to come. She goes to a 'liqueur store' and buys some alcohol, meets her 'goth' friends in a car park, who are waiting for her in a red sporty car. They spend the day drinking and having fun in their local water park. Shielding their bodies from the sun with black cloth umbrellas. Finding themselves in pools of water with smudged make up all over their face's. It's upbeat, it's electric and it's catchy as anything! Have a listen for yourselves.

Bring Me The Horizon: Game Changers?
By Dylan Tennison

It seems to be an exciting time for BMTH. With the new release of 2015 album 'That's The Spirit' reaching No.2 in the US charts and not to mention a sold out arena tour this month (November). It appears the once infamous "Most hated band in England" have finally started to get the recognition their music so blatantly deserves. Frontman Oli Sykes recently told Radio 1, "For the first time it really feels like people aren't against us."
There's no doubt that since their 2013 release 'Sempiternal' won over even the harshest of critics. Although 'That's The Spirit' has clearly pushed the boundaries of British music, it's hard to think of another British band who have changed so drastically in such a short period of time.
We've always seen bands develop and re structure musically, whether this is The Beatles' move into 60's psychedelia, Bowie's transformation into blue-eyed soul, Metallica escaping the clutches of thrash and preferring a much slower, melodic sound.
2006 saw the rather disappointing debut of 'Count Your Blessings' which now has almost been completely dismissed by all members of the band. "We were just kids messing about", Drummer Matt Nichols told Kerrang! magazine last year.
Musically 'Count Your Blessings' is fairly strong yet lacks any real punch, lyrical content and not to mention the Deathcore vocal which Sykes has seemed to ignore all together. "After we wrote Sempiternal, I didn't want to scream" said Sykes when addressing his own personal demons and drug problems live on stage.
'Thats' The Spirit' isn't only dark yet incredibly romantic too. Songs such as 'Drown' and 'Follow You' give a sweet electro sound which blend well with the more heavy, metal orientated tracks such as 'Doomed' and 'Happy Song'. Like or loath them, there is no doubt BMTH are revamping British music from the inside and they're doing it with electronica, string arrangement and fantastic back catalogue of songs.

Daughter – "Doing The Right Thing"

"Doing The Right Thing" is off Daughter's latest album 'Not To Disappear' which is due to be realised January 15th 2016.This track is a lot more powerful than 'Numbers', even more so if you watch the music video that accompanies it. It tells a story and who doesn't like a story! Unfortunately this story is not a very happy one but still a powerful one.

'I'm just fearing one day soon
I'll lose my mind
Then I'll lose my mind
Then I'll lose my children
Then I'll lose my love
Then I'll sit in silence
Let the pictures soak'
The guitar accompanies Elena Tonra's voice during the chorus, creating a deeper harmony and complimenting each others contrasts. For me this is a story about decay, of the mind, body and watching your life pass you by, just 'let the pictures soak.' Then we come to the end of our sanity:
'And when it's dark
I'll call out in the night for my mother
But she isn't coming back for me
Cause she's already gone
But you will not tell me that
Cause you know it hurts me every time you say it
And you know you are doing the right thing
You must know you are doing the right thing'
The video for made this song a lot more meaningful and gave the song a face. If you plan on listening to this track I'd recommend watching the video along with it, (but you might need to have a tissue at the ready!)

Dilly Dally - Desire

This weeks track of the week for me is, Desire by Dilly Dally. The track is off their recently released debut album ‘Sore’, which went on sale the 9th October. Dilly Dally are signed to Partisan Records (US) and Buzz Records (CAN). Although the band class themselves as ‘soft grunge’ they were voted number 12 in The Best Indie Rock Albums Of 2015 by www.albumoftheyear.org. It’s clear to see The Pixies were a big influence for this four-piece band from Toronto, but they show no shame in that (nor should they!) The band idolized Kurt Cobain, Christopher Owens, Pete Doherty and The Pixies, it’s that idolization that shaped, moulded and glued together, to create their own sound.

In the beginning we hear a dissonant guitar and vocals sounding off then ‘1, 2, 3, 4’ the music begins! Desire is a track filled with grungy fiery vocals but layered with soft 'Haaa’s’ that complement the contrast of range singer Katie Monks and guitarist Liz Ball have.
'I'm comin' at you from against the world, i get desire
Charlie saw me after school and then I get desire
Inside her
It's calling on me lately
Desire'
The song expresses a lust trying to escape Katie like a burning fire, whilst twanging guitars sound off, drums hit and tambourines shake.
