Dilly Dally - Desire
This weeks track of the week for me
is, Desire by Dilly Dally. The track
is off their recently released debut album ‘Sore’,
which went on sale the 9th October 2015. Dilly Dally are signed to
Partisan Records (US) and Buzz Records (CAN). Although the band class
themselves as ‘soft grunge’ they were voted number 12 in The Best Indie Rock Albums Of 2015 by www.albumoftheyear.org. It’s
clear to see The Pixies were a big influence for this four-piece band from
Toronto, but they show no shame in that (nor should they!) The band idolized
Kurt Cobain, Christopher Owens, Pete Doherty and The Pixies, it’s that
idolization that shaped, moulded and glued together, to create their own sound.
In the beginning we hear a
dissonant guitar and vocals sounding off then ‘1, 2, 3, 4’ the music begins!
Desire is a track filled with grungy fiery vocals but layered with soft
’Haaa’s’ that complement the contrast of range singer Katie Monks and guitarist Liz Ball have.
'I'm comin' at you from against the world, I get desire
Charlie saw me after school and then I get desire
Inside her
It's calling on me lately
Desire'
The song expresses a lust trying to escape Katie like a burning fire, whilst twanging guitars sound off, drums hit and tamborines shake.
