Archer Season 6
This show is incredibly snappy, and after wadding through 5
seasons to land on this newest sixth season with the correct amount of context,
was one of the most entertaining bits of wadding I have ever done. Even more
fun than crossing that lake in the New Forrest.
This
terrific, grounded, blunt and yet strangely imaginative show comes back with a
gentler and more nuanced bang than the crazy-mental-drug-cartel excitement of
the 5th season, ‘Archer Vice’. This refreshing tone the new series sets, does
not in any way allow the quick, punchy and morally questionable dialogue suffer.
The characters are still the same horrific, glue sniffing, racist, psychopathic,
insecure, hostile group of messiness they have always been. Except for one character,
who is not only the most horrific, but also the leading protagonist, Mr. Archer,
voiced by H. John Benjamin. Although he is still an alcoholic misogynistic mess,
with thought processes which could be seen as borderline ‘Evil’, doesn’t change
the fact that Archer now has a responsibility, a real human baby son. This
means throughout the season he slowly shifts into a slightly caring person. However
slight this character change is, it’s pulled of so well throughout the seasons
dialogue that it’s hard too not be moved during multiple scenes. This is a rare
(I thought impossible) thing for a series as hostile as Archer, but they nailed
it. His care and admiration for his female companion Lana Kane, voiced by Aisha
Tyler, has been apparent throughout the entire show. However, in this series
this care and admiration has finally surfaced.
This season is a move in a fantastic direction for Archer,
whilst remaining morbid, strange and hilarious, it delivers shifts in
character, which will refresh a long-time viewer and peak the curiosity of
first timers, even if the groundwork has already been laid during the last 5
seasons. Jolly good stuff.
