Tony Law: Go Mr Tony Go!

Stand up comedy special.

From the very start Tony Law bewitches the audience with character and confidence. The relaxed and slightly sarcastic tone Tony Law uses makes an audience member completely intrigued by strange notions, rather than being confused. The high paced first half is littered with ridiculous and tightly woven Jokes, which often include Tony breaking the forth wall and criticising himself as if he was a member of the audience. These breaks in character split the show into digestible serial segments, as well as providing thought provoking material about the comedy industry. Much like other alternative comedians such as Stewart Lee or Daniel Kitson, Tony Law dissects his own material when breaking the forth wall and in doing so dissects the art form of Stand Up Comedy.

After some riffing with the audience, Tony Opens with the line 'Boy What A Day I've Had Today!', a deliberate use of an anecdotal Stand Comedy Cliché, which is instantly destroyed when Tony follows with 'got out my pet Python. Swallowed him whole in one go, see how he likes it for a change!'. Law helps make stories like this even more absurd with his smug delivery, implying that swallowing your pet python is a witty and nuanced thing to do. After this, Tony instantly breaks the fourth wall, saying 'Pow! That's my opening bit of pre prepared material. It's too late to change that now.' Introducing the idea that he will deliberately perform nonsensical pieces of comedy and pass them off as either an 'artistic choice' or some sort of Avant-garde genius.

Each section of nonsensical comedy seems to have its own little comment on comedy surrounding it, whilst still remaining vague and playful enough to be just blizzard on the surface of things. Tony offers viewpoints from the strangest angles and tells story's which go to the most unpredictable places, with tight commentary and an ironic (but never pretentious) delivery. Law is always playful and always on point and sharp, making this serial journey intriguing and let's not forget, hilarious.
